Real Madrid are preparing a sensational swoop to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next summer, according to reports.
Spanish outlet Marca claim Los Blancos are plotting ‘Operation: Bellingham’ in order to beat Premier League giants Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea to his signature.
The 19-year-old has been on the radar of Carlo Ancelotti’s side for over a year.
Rumours in Spain have also claimed talks have been advancing between the club and the player, although these reports have been rubbished with Fabrizio Romano recently insisting ‘nothing is decided’.
Reports over a possible move to the Bernabeu have continued to spread, though, with club president Florentino Perez said to be willing to meet Dortmund’s demands of around £87million [€100m] to make Bellingham their ‘next Galactico’
With players such as 37-year-old Luka Modric approaching the end of his career and the future of Toni Kroos uncertain, Madrid are putting a focus on signing players for the future of the club.
Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have already been brought into the club, with Bellingham being seen as the final piece of the midfield jigsaw.
Madrid won’t have it all their own way though, with a number of Premier League clubs also said to be keen.
While Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are also long-term admirers of the midfielder, it’s Pep Guardiola’s side who are fancying their chances of striking a deal.
With 100 appearances to his name and captaining Dortmund in recent weeks, it’s clear Bellingham is a key player for the future and the chase to secure his signature will no doubt be fierce.
“This is going to be the new kind of Erling Haaland race with many clubs involved, and crazy months of rumours about Jude Bellingham,” said transfer guru Romano on his YouTube channel.
“But it’s very important to understand one point – Borussia Dortmund are not negotiating with any club at the moment. There are no talks ongoing.
“Dortmund will make their final price after the World Cup. There is no official clause included in Bellingham’s contract, so they can make the price, and they will discuss it after the World Cup because the performance of Bellingham at the World Cup could influence the price tag.
“All the top European giants will be there. Some of them have already started contact, some of them are waiting to enter into the race.
“So there will be many clubs in the race, but the player has no agreement with any club yet, so everything is in discussion and everything will take time.
“Bellingham is not deciding now, or this week or next week.”
