Tiger Woods and his son Charlie completed T8 on the PNC Championship and, as common, all eyes had been on the well-known duo.
Draped in iconic Sunday purple, Tiger and Charlie confirmed glimpses of previous genius and presumably future excellence, however in the end did not mount a big problem.
Even at 13, Charlie has turned heads with similarities to his legendary dad: the swing, the mannerisms… and so they had been even limping in unison over the weekend.
Whereas Tiger continues to get better from plantar fasciitis in his foot, and the extra basic results of his near-fatal automobile crash in 2021, Charlie was battling rising pains in his ankle.
However, they shot 59 within the scramble format on Saturday, primarily because of an impressed Tiger.
This was only a hit-and-giggle and the 46-year-old was in a cart, however this was nonetheless the type of golf that makes folks dream of a miraculous future problem at a Main Championship.
They had been two photographs off the lead however their problem light, though Charlie turned on the model on Sunday.
Having emerged at this event two years in the past as an 11-year-old mini-me, Charlie is now reaching ball speeds of 160mph and driving the ball north of 250 yards.
Those who watched a young Tiger burst onto the scene in the late nineties will remember that famous recoil – and Charlie had the exact same power move on Sunday.
But besides the golf, it seems Charlie also has his dad’s comic timing in press conferences, too.
When asked about Tiger’s game on Saturday, Charlie said: “I already knew what he was capable of. And then yesterday, that’s the best he’s ever played in a while.
“And that kind of shocked me a little bit.”
As his dad and the assembled press laughed, Tiger responded: “Yeah, I used to be good.”
In recent years, the 15-time Major winner has formed a close friendship with Justin Thomas, who played alongside the Woods’ with his dad Mike over the weekend.
And the 2022 PGA Championship winner popped up to test Charlie’s media abilities after the tournament finished.
Thomas grabbed the microphone and said: “What is the background behind the Snoopy hat?”
Charlie responded: “It’s the hat that was in my closet that fits the best. That’s all I can say about it.”
Tiger laughed and said: “Great answer!”
The PNC Championship takes place in the name of fun – and it would be silly to read too much into it.
But given the glimpses of quality from Tiger and the voluntary placement of his son in the spotlight, it is easy to see why people expect this to be the start of something bigger.
