Eddie Hearn has insisted that Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn is merely postponed at present and can be rescheduled in due course.
News broke on Wednesday that Benn last month tested positive for banned substance clomifene, which can raise testosterone.
Both teams were made aware of this for over a week prior to it being reported in the media.
During this time, Eubank Jr and his representatives took independent medical advice and the boxer himself decided that he wanted to proceed with the bout regardless.
Once the information became public though, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) put out a statement announcing that they would prohibit the fight from taking place.
Benn’s promoter Hearn and Eubank Jr’s promoter Kalle Sauerland attempted to force a U-turn over the next 24 hours, but were ultimately unsuccessful.
On Thursday afternoon they confirmed that the fight was off.
However, Eubank Jr vs Benn is not cancelled, just postponed.
The promoters gave a brief press conference to explain the decision to postpone on Thursday, but refused to answer questions from the media in attendance.
Hearn did however did speak to his broadcast partner DAZN in an interview which has since been uploaded to their YouTube channel.
Asked when the fight is likely to be rescheduled: Hearn told DAZN: “I think everybody’s in the sport’s got to be comfortable.
“And that’s a very difficult thing because I’ve seen some very righteous people over the last 24 hours.
“But ultimately everybody needs peace of mind.
“For me, this fight is postponed.
“This has been the most tremendous build-up, I want to make this fight.
“But at the same time people want answers, people need to sit in front of others and go through the process here.
“But right now this fight is postponed.”
Hearn added in a separate interview with iFL TV on Saturday: “When I say there’s a lot of righteous people giving opinions – it doesn’t mean the opinion this fight shouldn’t have taken place is wrong.
“It just means I’ve heard opinions from people that in the same situation would’ve done exactly the same thing as certain people.
“And when I see people from Sky particularly – I read and I look back to the Dillian Whyte situation and how they were involved in that process as well.
“It baffles me.”
