Gareth Bale will be hoping to give a good account of his golf game when he takes part in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Thursday.
The former Wales star, who famously loves golf, will tee it up alongside Matt Fitzpatrick, Jordan Spieth and a number of other celebrities in the PGA Tour event this weekend.
But in 2022, it was boxing superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez who stole the show in California.
Like Bale, who won it all at Real Madrid, the iconic boxer is also really good at golf.
But what’s evening more sickening is the 31-year-old only picked up a club in 2020.
Having caught the golf bug during the COVID-19 pandemic, Canelo already has a title to his name, winning the Korn Ferry Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am in July 2021.
That came after he tied for 35th in his first American Century Championship appearance, draining an iconic eagle along the way.
Last year, the Mexican was out at Pebble Beach almost making hole-in-ones, spinning one back to 11 inches on the famous par-3 17th.
The famous fighter was telling golf broadcaster Jim Nantz how he manages to practice golf for four hours each day in his bid to improve.
And then he stuffed a glorious iron shot into the famous green, narrowly missing out on $500,000 for charity at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am’s Million Dollar Hole-in-one event.
While Bale’s love for the game is well-documented, we are yet to see much of him in a competitive golfing environment.
However, world No. 3 Jon Rahm is expecting big things, having played with the Welshman at Torrey Pines in January.
“I told Gareth, you can’t be so good at professional football and golf at the same time, it just doesn’t seem fair,” said Rahm.
“Can’t be dedicated to one thing and have this much talent for golf, it’s not fair in the slightest.
“You can tell he loves this sport, he loves golf and he really wants to get to play a little bit more, so hopefully in the future I’ll see him more times in the pro-am.”
