Jaire Alexander personally texted Bears WR an apology.
It was one more chapter of the storied rivalry between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears this past weekend, and one that included yet another personal jab for the second straight season.
Last year, it was quarterback Aaron Rodgers shouting into the Soldier Field stands, “I still own you!”
This year, again at Soldier Field, Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander took aim at a former teammate of his, Bears wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown.
After the game, Alexander was asked about the 56-yard catch he gave up while covering St. Brown early in the game. Alexander responded with a few choice words, including the phrase, “he a scrub.”
Since the response from Alexander after the game, the Packers cornerback has apparently tried to rectify things with St. Brown.
Jaire Alexander owned up to a mistake he made when emotions were running high, and his former teammate didn’t take it personally
St. Brown seemed to brush off Alexander’s comments, taking the high road. Although, a dig like that has to hurt a bit, especially coming from a former teammate.
Both Alexander and St. Brown were drafted by the Packers back in 2018, with Alexander going on to earn a long-term extension with Green Bay and St. Brown being a forgotten man.
He has since tried revitalizing his career in a Bears offense that has passed the ball far less than any team in football this season. But, St. Brown did earn the trust and respect of Justin Fields early on in training camp.
Speaking of Fields, Alexander did get the chance to pick off the former Ohio State standout once on Sunday — one of two interceptions Fields tossed. That Alexander interception just so happened to be on a route in which St. Brown appeared to have run incorrectly, as stated by Fields after the game.
Alexander and the Packers are now right back in the thick of the NFC playoff picture, fighting for a spot following the victory over Chicago. Meanwhile, the Bears are locked into the number two overall pick in next year’s draft.
For now, Alexander (and Rodgers) still have the last laugh, having beaten the Bears in both matchups this season.
